An action plan is drawn up according to a detailed survey carried out in each panchayat analyzing its current socio-economic climate. This helps Prayaan develop tailor-made strategies to suit its specific needs.
What lies at the root of any backwardness is a lack of enough awareness and slipshod education. Therefore, Prayaan maintains its first focus on Aangan awareness classes, classes meant for people in rural areas who have, for far too long, been economically and socially deprived. The classes expose them to the importance of education and what actually caused their current situation and are followed by mass awareness programs like cultural activities, sports & arts meets and conveying certain messages through parents meet and teachers’ training.
It is a concerted effort to identify school dropouts, offer them professional counseling, and finally have them back in school. Students already registered in school but usually skive off are identified and are invited to a program called ‘school chale hum’ conducted with a multitude of motivational games that encourage them to be back in school. The program is sometimes taken further to specific classrooms to give them training on goal setting, values and life skills.
It is a strategic move mainly targeted at students of 5th, 8th and 10th grades to ensure a minimum level of learning by conducting talent search exams based on pre-prepared modules and felicitating the winners, schools, and classrooms that got the biggest number of students to take the exams. The program also includes appointing Prayaan’s own staff called Prayaan fellows who handle important subjects like Maths, English and Science giving special training to help learners meet a minimum level of learning.
Students, especially from the 10th and 12th grades, are provided with intensive one-to-one mentoring and guidance through residential camps and workshops that strengthen their concepts and focus on practical tips for taking public exams and practice questions.
Nava Kiran is a career hub offered in collaboration with the Centre for Information and Guidance India (CIGI), a non-profitable organization by educationists, intellectuals, technocrats, sociologists, and community leaders, concerned at the deplorable plight of the deprived segments of the society. Prayaan Fellowship is given to candidates from low-income families if they are found eligible for admission to premier institutes. This project also encourages students to make their way to government jobs by preparing them for competitive exams through special coaching classes.
Infrastructure in government schools is thoroughly assessed in terms of effectiveness and utility. In case of any deficiency or decrepitude, Prayaan collects sponsors who contribute enormously to its improvement. This project also extends HR support to government schools.
Seasoned teachers are appointed to help learners achieve a minimum level of education and participate in other ventures of Prayaan foundation like cutting down the dropout rate and topping up the number of teachers in government schools.
It is a continuing education centre where school dropouts, regardless of their age and background, are given basic education needed to survive in modern days including writing and reading practices.
It is a Prayaan model school that has all the necessary features and facilities that any ideal institution should be equipped with in this day and age in order to ensure quality education and service. The school has grades from the 1 to 12.
It is a self-sufficiency project that gives unemployed men, women and people with disabilities
formal vocational training for various occupations like sewing clothes, making pickles, etc and
support them in finding lucrative markets for their products.
This program offers timely comments, suggestions, and recommendations to central, state and local authorities with regard to the quality of services, availability of staff, implementation of government projects, and draws their due attention to other neglected areas of civil service.
Just as ‘education to all’ has its clear role to play in nation building so too has social welfare. As we have long recognized that not enough is being done to promote social well-being, Prayaan is all set to lead the following programs as well.
Our mission is to help individuals, groups, and organizations realize their true potential, utilize the available resources, equip themselves with skills and knowledge needed to be successful and contribute to nation-building and social development.
